We love having you at our apartments on East Riverside, but we understand that everyone needs to get away every once in awhile. With that in mind, we put together a list of the best day trip destinations around Austin! If you need to get out of town but don’t feel like spending a fortune on a fancy vacation, these destinations should be right up your alley.
Check out the list of day trip ideas below, y’all! Oh, and when you’re done, please be sure to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments on Lady Bird Lake.
Take a self-guided tour of the LBJ Ranch
The first place on our list flies under the radar when it comes to Hill Country day trip destinations, but we think more people should know about this amazing slice of history just outside Austin. Lyndon Baines Johnson was born at the site of his ranch, he lived there often during his Presidency, and he eventually died there. You can go check out the ranch in your vehicle on a self-guided tour, and you’ll likely be the only person there if you go on a weekday. Be sure to check out the retired Air Force One plane, the “Texas White House” where Johnson made important policy decisions, and the cemetery where LBJ is buried.
Shop antiques ‘till you drop in Wimberley, TX
It’s only a half-hour away, but Wimberley feels like a total escape to small town Texas. We love WImberley because of the amazing antique shops and outdoor markets that have all those one-of-a-kind pieces that you need to turn your apartment into the coolest pad in the community. The shop owners are more than willing to barter, so don’t be afraid to attempt to haggle down the price!
When you’re done shopping for antiques, head on over Ino’z — a riverside restaurant with a huge deck and live music on the weekends. The restaurants backs up to the serene river that cuts through Wimberley, and it’s located right next to some of the oldest, biggest oak trees in Texas.
Visit the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio
The best time to go to the Pearl Brewery is on Saturdays before 1pm or Sundays before 2pm. That’s when the area has it’s weekly farmers market, which is one of the best ways to experience the beauty and deliciousness that is a day at the Pearl Brewery. This renovated brewery features multiple high-end restaurants, boutiques, a lovely hotel, and the weekend farmers market. If you’re only going to do one thing in San Antonio, do this!
