How often do you try new recipes in the kitchen at your apartments on Lady Bird Lake? In our past blog posts, we’ve shared interesting new recipes with our residents and encouraged y’all to experiment in the kitchen. In this week’s post, we’re going to do pretty much the opposite of that.

Sometimes, the simplest meals taste best. We’re talking about mac and cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and grilled cheese. These are the meals that you ate when you were a little kid, and although they were easy to make, they were still delicious. As adults, most of us forget how tasty these simple meals are because we’re busy trying new recipes and pushing our boundaries.

In the post below, we’ll be telling you how you can improve the simple meals that you are when you were a kid. Peanut butter and jelly doesn’t have to be just peanut butter and jelly, and the same goes for the other two meals we mentioned earlier. Without further delay, let’s take a look at the list of simple cooking tips on the list below! When you’re done reading through this post, please be sure to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of East Riverside apartments.

Mac and Cheese

To improve your next batch of mac & cheese, try adding some tiny bits of bacon to it. You can also make mac & cheese more creamy by using heavy whipping cream instead of milk. If you want to make it look fancy, add some fresh basil leaves to the top of your bowl when you’re about to serve it!

Grilled Cheese

When it comes to making delicious grilled cheese sandwiches, it’s all about using high-quality ingredients. You make make a bland grilled cheese by using cheap bread and single-serve cheese slices, or you can get your bread from the bakery section and experiment with new types of cheese. If you want your sandwich to be made of more than just bread and cheese, try adding tomatoes or bacon. Another good way to improve the taste is the add seasoning to the top of your bread, or to spread mayonnaise on either side of your bread before putting it on the stove.

Peanut Butter and Jelly

Last but not least, let’s talk about the simplest meal on our list. There’s a lot you can do with PB&J sandwiches if you’re willing to think outside the box. In our humble opinion, every peanut butter and jelly sandwich can be made better by adding some crunch. We recommend adding crunch in the form of pretzels or almonds. Next, let’s make sure your fruit flavors stand out. Instead of just using jelly, try adding real strawberries, blueberries or blackberries to your sandwich. Finally, don’t forget to grill your sandwich before eating it! The best PB&J sandwiches are crispy, and you can create that ideal texture by throwing it on the grill.

With that, we’ve reached the end of our list of simple cooking tips!
